OUR CONSERVATION EFFORTS

Our 3 Step Conservation Plan

Kea Conservation Trust

"The Kea is often a special highlight of our guests day to Milford Sound, but this cheeky parrot is up against it and the decision to support their protection has been driven by our tour guides love for this Fiordland resident"

Luxe Tours donates $3 from every Milford Sound Tour ticket to the Kea Conservation Trust in New Zealand.

Kea's are fellow Fiordland locals and one of New Zealand's most iconic native birds. This cheeky alpine parrot is often seen along Milford Road, with our guests and guides very lucky to experience their unique and playful interactions.

We used to have over 1-million Kea in New Zealand prior to the introduction of pests & predators. Nowadays, there are thought to be less than 5000 remaining.

The Kea Conservation Trust, a charitable organisation, donates over 3000 volunteer hours each year to programmes focused on supporting this special native bird.

By travelling on a Luxe Tours Milford Sound Tour, you are supporting these efforts to protect this unique bird.

Native Tree Planting

We donate a native tree for every tour van running each day at Luxe Tours, all in an effort to reduce our footprint.

Luxe Tours has invested in an efficient fleet of Mercedes van's however we still produce emissions.

In an effort to offset our emissions, we donate a native tree for each van operating (four in total), each day. This results in over approximately 1000 trees being planted every year.

Trees for Survival runs this programme and involves young school children around New Zealand in the actual planting of the native tree, providing education to our future generation on the importance of protecting our environment.

Our Tiaki Promise

New Zealand is precious, and everyone who lives and travels here has a responsibility to look after it.

Luxe Tours has made the commitment to the Tiaki Promise, which means to put in place practical steps of how we will care for New Zealand and area we operate it.

  • We only use compostable or recyclable packaging on board our tours and cruises.

  • We plant a native tree for each tour van.

  • We educate guests on our environment and endangered wildlife.

  • Our chilled water onboard for guests is provided in a 100% plant based plastic & reusable drink bottle. â€‹â€‹
